My grandmother Lillian Galloway Wesberry and my step mother Mary Sue Latimer Wesberry read to me as a child and taught me to appreciate reading diverse books.  "Mother Sue"would take me to Atlanta's downtown Carnegie Library every two weeks to return read books and check out more. As I became older she encouraged me to read biographies.

When I was 15 and 16 working as a Page in the US House of Representatives the Page School was located on the 4th Floor of the Library of Congress Building. Our school had the largest library in the world.  I guess that tremendous experience also taught me to love books. . While working as a Page I joined the Book-of-the-Month Club and bought and read many books.

During my professional career I was primarily occupied with reading professional journals and books  and unfortunately had little time for others.

I have always loved to browse in libraries and bookstores. When I worked for USAID with my office in the State Department Building in Washington I had the privilege of being on the same floor as the State Department's library.  I took my lunch hour every day browsing through the several floors of books and documents.  It was an unforgettable experience.

Once I retired I returned to voracious reading which I love. The following are most, but not all, of the books that I have read since I retired.

Whenever you find you are on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect

                     --- Mark Twain

We have never observed a great civilization with a population as old as the United States will have in the twenty-first century; we have never observed a great civilization that is as secular as we are apparently going to become; and we have had only half a century of experience with advanced welfare states...Charles Murray
